iPhone and Smartphone apps are key tools for modern brand’s marketing and fan-base/ growth and building.
By offering very compelling features, those devices open new areas for marketers and fan’s brand awareness.

A highly skilled team

Apps&Co is the iKlax Media’s department specialised in Smartphone app creation.
The team is composed of multimedia engineers, highly skilled in Smartphone app’s design and development.
In a market where lots of iPhone apps are made by “amateurs”, Apps&Co offers a strong expertise in computer science to ensure stability and efficiency with cutting-edge state of the art features.

iPhone apps vs website

The web opened great tools for brands to communicate, promote and sell.
However, mobile navigating in a website is not easy due to the small screens and the fact that most websites are not tuned for mobile phone compatibility.
An Apps&Co app takes all of your compelling content and makes it available for readers with an adapted and ergonomical layout, section by section. It also uses Smartphone exclusive features like “geo-localisation” and/or “accelerometer” functions so popular today.
An iPhone app is a complement to a website which adapts to the mobility and new mobile phone experience to promote your brand or sell items in the best and most efficient way.

Everyone at iKlax is thinking of Les Paul this morning.

I've chosen to copy Rolling Stone article as it quotes a few great guitarists. The original article can be found at: www.rollingstone.com/

Photo: courtesy of: Capak/WireImage

Les Paul Remembered: Guitar Greats on Their True

As word spread of the death of guitar pioneer Les Paul today, many of those he influenced jumped online (and called up Rolling Stone) to share their tributes to the father of the electric six-string. The next issue will have more tributes, but here’s a survey of artists’ immediate reactions to the loss of one of the instruments’ true heroes:

Look back at Paul’s life in photos: Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen and more stars with the father of the electric guitar.

“My friend & mentor Les Paul died today at 94, he was one of the most stellar human beings I’ve ever known, rest in peace Les.” — Slash

“Remembering Les Paul today. Just happened to have his namesake Gibson around my shoulder the last few days. Pictures of Les Paul all over the studio today. Very special day in here. You should wiki his life. Pretty amazing.” — John Mayer

“RIP Les Paul-thankyou for the instruments that changed the course of music. If u have ever “rocked” or “been rocked” u can thank Les Paul.” — Tom Morello

“The World Has Lost a Remarkable Innovator and Musician.” — the Donnas

“The music industry has lost a giant! I’m very saddened by the news of Les Paul’s passing. I was lucky enough to have known Les as a friend, and admired him as a musician and innovator. He forever changed the way we listen to music.” — Ace Frehley

“Les Paul set a standard for musicianship and innovation that remains unsurpassed. He was the original guitar hero, and the kindest of souls. Last October I joined him onstage at The Iridium club in NYC, and he was still shredding. He was and still is an inspiration to us all.” — Joe Satriani

“There are very few human beings in history who touched so many people the way Les Paul did. Not only musicians. But anyone that loved music. He shared his gifts with all of us and brought people together with his brilliance and devotion to music and the art of sound. It was a privilege to have met him. He will be incredibly missed. But our blessing is to know that his spirit and soul will live for eternity in music everywhere.” — The Hold Steady’s Tad Kubler, who shared this photo with us as well:

Cerrone was one of the emblematic artists at the rise of the disco era and is today recognised as one of the most visionnary electro scene precursors.

Just a few weeks ago, in the midst of the debates about music piracy, he decided to offer his faithful fans his latest album as a fully free download, right on his official site.

And now, he's taken another step towards his fans with "Je Suis Music" in multitrack audio format... a completely new way to listen to music.

Mark Cerrone became seduced by the creative spectrum the iKlax technology has to offer and comments "iKlax offers access to the secrets of a hit, beyond the usual mp3, allowing to enter the core of creation. A great and novel priviledge I believe".

So, here's what's in store for you, if you'd like to get hands (fingers) on with the "Remix Cerrone - Je Suis Music" club hit multitrack application for your iPhone and iPod Touch - now available in Apple's App Store.

That's it! All rounder Tom "Cagedbaby" Gandey's multitrack iphone App is finally out.

The story hasn't been told yet, and it's the sort that has become a bit usual with Apple's application review system...

Have you ever been on Cagedbaby's myspace? Well the "Freakshow" artwork, cover of his latest single "Forced" made for some serious concern at the Apple...

When the app was first submitted, the recommended age for using the app was the usual (4+), but apparently, the cover is offending... True, on the cover displayed on the website you can clearly read "Sorry We're FUCKED", and there's a little image amongst the many in the patchwork where you see a young lady's breasts, walking along in a social event...

But neither on iTunes nor on the iPhone is it nearly possible to see those things, simply due to the size! And the app was refused, artwork had to be changed to gain re-approval and so the time passed. It now says the minimum age to download it is 17! I'm not here to judge American Puritanism, but.....

The waiting is now over! Don't hold back, indulge yourself and get it. You will not regret it. The track is simply pure Cagedbaby creation, fresh, groovy and efficient. It works just as well on the dance floor, the radio or on your iPhone / iPod Touch.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary release of "Space Oddity" and the first step on the moon, a new iPhone application allowing users to remix the title will be available on July 20th.

40 years to the day that Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon, EMI and Iklax will create a unique opportunity for David Bowie fans: the chance for them to download and mix the original multi-tracks of ‘Space Oddity,’ who also celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

As David Bowie is a pioneer of technology, and keen to push the boundaries, now is the time that his fans are afforded the opportunity to have access to the original 1969 multi-tracks of ‘Space Oddity,’ allowing them to become remixer and create their own version of the song.

Originally released on 11th July 1969 to coincide with the Apollo 11 moon landings, ‘Space Oddity’ was a cultural land for David Bowie as an artist – it was featured by the BBC in its television coverage of the lunar landing, and the song later won an Ivor Novello award. The song’s mysterious character, Major Tom, has become a recurrent theme throughout Bowie’s work and career, being revisited in the song ‘Ashes To Ashes’.

The iKlax ‘Space Oddity Multitrack App’ for iPhone and iPod Touch, (sold on the iTunes App store) will enable fans a unique and exciting opportunity. They can remix the individual tracks: vocals, acoustic 12-string guitar, drums and bass, mellotron, organ and guitars, guitar solo, strings and other orchestration; Fans can “shake” the phone for random mixes, and save their mix versions.
This is a revolutionary experience for music fans to recreate their own versions of one of popular music’s most iconic songs, all on the go, anytime, anywhere!

Furthermore, the "Space Oddity EP", also released on 20th July, includes four versions of the song. When fans purchase the EP they will also receive the original eight stems/multi-tracks for free, enabling them to remix the song.

iKlax multitrack software for Mac or PC, (www.iklaxmusic.com/davidbowie) allows fans the opportunity to use the original 8-track stems from the EP without complicated home studio software. Users simply download the iKlax “Creator” software, and follow the simple steps to remix and make the iKlax song file.

David Bowie is to release a digital EP of his 1969 Space Oddity release.

The Space Oddity Digital EP will contain four songs and when fans purchase them, they will also receive the original eight stems for free - allowing them to remix the songs using most digital music software or the iKlax software (www.iklaxmusic.com/davidbowie).

The four tracks are as follows:

Space Oddity (original UK mono single edit)
Space Oddity (US mono single edit)
Space Oddity (US stereo single edit)
Space Oddity (1979 re-record)

June, 26th of 2009.

Sad day.
Michael Jackson, one of the biggest Pop Star ever, died yesterday.

This guy was just a genius: strong voice, clear and pure, always inspired in his interpretations and with a unique sense of the beat. American people call that "the Soul".

As a drummer, musician and composer I feel that his music, his beats and rhythms are always somewhere while we create.
We have been very influenced by his songs, his dancing and choreography.
Who never tried to Moonwalk or the final step with one hand between the legs and the other trying to reach the stars?
And his fabulous "Hoo"? Everybody said it once at least.

I watched the news this morning on TV and had a chance to hear again those marvelous songs: Thriller, Beat it, Bad...
Hey guys! This singer rocked, really!
I am not a "pure" fan, I don't have any of his album at home, but I sincerely measure his impact on music History and industry.
Even when I hear some of the new songs coming from the young generation, I can feel inspirations from Michael Jackson.

Like some of the best artists of the 20th Century like Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison or John Lennon, he sent us "in others dimensions".
Like touched by "God's Finger".
And we had the chance, I really believe it, to live at the same period.

Of course, success, power, money and pressure were too wide for just a single human being.
That’s the cynical part of life: the higher you go, the lower you fall.
I sincerely believe that no one of us could be prepared to this kind of experience.
I don't justify anything, I didn't know him personally neither the "real" stories.

But I am sure that History will remember his impact on Music and that we will keep something of his magic in our feeling while dancing or singing.

This Town Needs Guns

Oxford is home to the oldest University in the English-speaking world, but more recently has been acknowledged as a musical hotbed with a habit of producing some of the most vital bands around today (Radiohead and Foals, to name a few). Their latest export is This Town Needs Guns, a band being hailed as the darling buds of the thriving UK indie scene. The band have toured across Europe with the likes of I Was A Cub Scout, Meet Me In St Louis, Rolo Tomassi and Maps & Atlases and the release of 2007’s split EP with Cats And Cats And Cats garnered critical acclaim from fans and press alike.

This Town Needs Guns entered the studio in April 2008, setting out to find an intricate balance between indie rock, catchy pop and technical prowess, all while ignoring the lure of special effects and studio wizardry. Through this process, their debut full-length Animals was born; a collection of songs that bring to light the band’s pure, clever and earnest song writing ability. Tim Collis’ guitar sounds as though it’s being caressed by 6 hands as his brother, Chris, flings his sticks around the drum kit not wanting to leave any tiny patch un-touched. Bassist Dan Adams completes the rhythm section with his dancey, jazz influenced bass lines while Stuart Smith’s vocals dip and soar, taking this record from thought provoking depths to sky-scraping triumphs.

Arch Woodman & Hope+Belief Collective

Young, French and acoustic, Arch Woodmann is the solo project of a former post-punk/post-rocker who chose to leave - for a while - electricity behind him. After having fallen in love with folk music, he started to focuse on his own production, which mixes the melancholy of Sun Kil Monn to the experimental jazz touch of Do Make Say Think, with a few Broken Social Scene-like poppy choruses. Song after song, Arch Woodmann breaks free from his influences, building a unique universe where he invites several musicians from different music styles (pop, rock, jazz, classical).

More and more multitrack tracks are released by bands every day. This will in turn create further proximity, cosyness amongst bands and their fans.

My latest find is a great one, Phoenix with 1901, probably one of their lead track for their new album "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix" due to be released May 25th.
So if you're a fan of good pacy pop-rock, and would like to start playing with your iKlax Creator Software, just get the multitrack the band offers on their website (mp3 format) - on www.wearephoenix.com/

Posted by Alex, 2009.03.04 | Category : blog

As far as music goes, the only subject about multitrack that’s been heavily discussed is the rise of multitrack recording since its conception and development by Les Paul in the late 1940s thanks to Bing Crosby’s reel-to-reel tape recorder (Ampex) present to him.

Well surrounded (Dave Sarser et al), this resulted in a machine that could playback and monitor a previously recorded track on tape, while recording a new one.

Since, the technique has become a widespread use for artists around the world. Even more so with the computer, that allows to digitalize sound, and therefore process all the little bits (stem tracks) separately.

Although this is no news for artists & sound engineers, it remains fairly outside the public’s dimension, which generally is thought to [only] enjoy the finished entity of the song.

Sometimes though, perhaps in a live show, the listener has the opportunity to listen to a musicians solo, and discover the quality of the person on a particular instrument, and the quality of the sound of that particular instrument.

Music’s evolution, since Man discovered the joy of it, has gone through the creation, evolution and establishment of various music instruments, along the use of the beautiful capability of some to sing…

Again, the onset of computers and technology, has spawned new areas of development for music, a subject probably still debated by some.

I believe that this evolution keeps going, and, as you’re reading this on the iKlax blog, you probably already know where I’m getting at here.

Of course, as an employee at iKlax, I see the iKlax audio format as a great step forward in music’s evolution. Today, its true that it takes awhile to just grasp what it is, what it basically does, and furthermore, what it actually could do.

It has been just over a year that the company exists, and a couple of years before that, that the idea, the concept was born out of a passionate music lover who was topped with enterprise ambition, Owen Lagadec. Assisted technically by Ivan Duchemin, a French top IT audio developer, they’ve laid the foundation of multitrack playback, that is, a simple way for [basic] users like me, to discover a widely ignored dimension in/of music. And this is just skimming the surface of the various uses the iKlax format can potentially have. The new limits as far as creation and joy of listening goes will be set by artists themselves. They are the matter creators. iKlax is just another string to their bows, another tool, to get us vibrating under the sound of our favourite tunes and songs, whatever the style.

Since I have had more opportunities to listen, I can boast around, being one of the first to really experience it. And now it’s coming to all, with the contemporary music that we enjoy on a daily basis. So I invite you to discover known and less known artists on iklaxmusic.com for the computer based tracks, and to the App Store, if you’re a happy iPhone or iPod Touch user to download the iKlax applications. They’re store in the Music category. Search for “multitrack”… and enjoy.

Here's a basic online guitar tuner which will allow you to listen to the notes easily and quickly.

Strings are numbered from the bottom to the top (1= the thinnest, 6= the thickest), unless you're a left hander and you are using a righthander's guitar, but that's another story.

Our engineers have worked hard to develop THE audio mixing next generation software: iKlax Creator Pro.
Enhanced layout and user friedlyness, a revolutionnary mixing table, an exclusive constraints management system, and more... They've given their best for this bit of interactive music software.

Some will love it, some less, and its now available on www.iklaxmedia.com.

See you there.

Posted by Mister iKlax, 2008.10.29 | Category : Blog

iKlax Media SAS is launching iKlax Creator Pro, the first professional multitrack & interactive music creation software.
Owen Lagadec, the company’s founder & CEO explains: “When we launched the lite version of iKlax Creator in March, for musicians to test the iKlax software, we weren’t sure what would come out of it. Six months later, the software has been downloaded over 7,000 times, a feat for music software!”

“iKlax Creator Pro’s evolutions, brought by invaluable user feedback, include exclusive functionalities like multiple mixes creation in one single file and the dynamic volumes mixing.”

“Following the company’s launch in January, other initiatives from France & Korea prove that interactive music is very contemporary. In February we were ahead of our competitors, an advance that we’ve kept thanks to major innovations like our exclusive constraint system that acts on tracks and volumes. This enables the creator of the music to control the way it is listened to. As an artist myself, I understand how important it is to guarantee a creation’s integrity. We are the only ones to offer this,” concludes Mr. Lagadec.
MAJOR INNOVATIONS ON MIXING
iKlax Creator Pro has been designed to perfectly integrate traditional creation methods and occurs at the end of the process, once the creator has recorded and arranged his tracks on his usual sequencer.
iKlax Creator Pro brings true innovations to audio mixing:
- The ability to import multi-format stem tracks without decompressing (wave, aiff, mp3, ogg vorbis, …): the tracks remain in their original format throughout the mixing process.
- The first multi-format drag & drop virtual mixing table: the drag & drop system allows the creator to add stem tracks to the virtual mixing table, on the fly.
- The unlimited creation of mixes (iKmix) for every single file.
- The mixing & selection constraints setting
- The export of the file in the multitrack & interactive iKlax format, or in mp3, ogg vorbis and wave.
FULL CONTROL
“Beyond the interactivity, the great improvement of iKlax Creator Pro, is its mixing engine”, specifies Laurent Primaux, R&D CO. “For instance, you can create mixing rules allowing stem tracks’ volumes to be linked. Therefore, when a user moves a volume slide bar, the other volume slide bars will also move while retaining the same relation. This has never been done before.”
USEFUL INFORMATION
Please find all technical information on our website: www.iklax.com
In order to ease the transition to interactive music, iKlax offers a FREE VERSION of iKlax Creator Pro. It is downloadable from iklax.com
The software comes in 2 versions (electronic download and box), 2 languages (English & French), from € 269.00 (incl. Taxes).

Everyone agrees on the fact that there's something happening in the "music industry". Loads of illegal downloading and copying, which for some is seen as pure theft, for others as free advertising and a hint on the music's quality (its wanted when downloaded!).

Now we come along with our multi-track audio format, providing a novel outlook for anyone involved with music.

New opportunities include:

:: creativity :: - :: interactivity :: - :: richer content ::
Artists can include more into every single song they produce, e.g. solos that have been squashed now have their place alongside, the user able to listen to the song over and over, just swapping between the versions offered by the artists.

:: promotion ::
iKlax contains a natural promotion tool, which is easily exploited by listeners through iKlax Player... they can get involved in the song by re-mixing the song using the tracks provided by artists & bands, without having to download source material nor using complex sequencing equipment. Feedback would be counted in the tens of thousand or more, compared with the thousands successfully achieved by Radiohead for instance.

And YES, it's all new. Artists & bands should grab the opportunity to be among the first to show off their tunes.

Don't hesitate prompting, poking, asking or bugging me with questions, I will answer all of them (if less than a 1000!).

CALL, GRAB, GET YOUR FAVOURITE ARTISTS TO PRODUCE IKLAX TRAX!!!

Following the launch of the new iKlax multitrack audio format, iKlax Media repeats the stunt with the first interactive music platform: www.iklaxmusic.com.
Open to all artists and completely free, the platform will allow all creatives to spread their music in iKlax format and exchange with their community.

iKlax Music

Definitely oriented web 2.0, www.iklaxmusic.com is filled with advanced functionalities to allow every artist to a new music listening experience within limits established by himself.

"As a musician myself, knowing artists concerns, I have aspired to a fully flexible area for every artist, where proximity and immediate interactivity with the user is favoured", explains Owen Lagadec.

Similarly to aggregators, the artist space is built using blocks that he organises as he sees fit. Albums, tunes, videos and message wall are some elements the artist can add with a simple click.

Moreover, the system remains open and allows third party developers to add functionalities to enhance and add to existing features.

Priority to the Music
"Unlike most other websites dedicated to artists, I have prioritized the Music itsef for iKlax Music. With one click you can access a track and download it immediately. This site is also an opportunity for me to express my point of view which is that what makes an artists attractive is first of all his capacity to create" concludes Owen Lagadec.

The official public launch will take place June 16th 2008, but artists wishing to engage in the adventure can request a "beta test" invitation on www.iklaxmusic.com.

iKlax Booster

To celebrate the launch of the platform, iKlax organizes the first music contest in iKlax format, the iKlax Booster, 100% online!
Registering and participation is completely FREE for all unsigned artists on www.iklaxmusic.com.
A 5,000 € prize will be given to the band or artist who has received the most ratings for one given track in the final.

Save those dates:
June 16th 2008: public registrations and votes start
September 15th 2008: 5 top voted tracks selection and start of the final.
October 1st 2008: and the winner is ______!

Not Music only will be "BOOSTED", but also the public. Sweepstakes will reward returning enthusiastic users.
The principle is simple, the more voters, the larger the amount to win will be. Every voter earns the final prize an extra 1 cent (€). Just imagine where this can take it! The winner will be drawn October 1st 2008 and handed the final amount.

About

After only a few months on the digital music market, the iKlax format offers artists the technical possibility to express the whole of their creativity on a same file. In turn this allows the listeners to navigate within the track and access various arrangement possibilities provided by the artists.

iKlax Media is a company founded by Owen Lagadec.

Another very interesting stunt from top British band Radiohead who made the tracks of Nude (from the In Rainbows album) available to the public.

http://radioheadremix.com/

It really seems to be the time for iKlax, as it is a lot easier to do a simple remix using iKlax Creator and iKlax Player... And a lot of fun too!

Who knows, but Radiohead may just get interested by our "interactive" format. We loved Radiohead before but are truly on the way getting full on fans!

You may have read this in the press, it is strange to hear a voice (faintly) recorded in 1860... Read the article and listen to the song on the International Herald Tribune.
