The next issue will have more tributes, but here’s a survey of artists’ immediate reactions to the loss of one of the instruments’ true heroes:

Look back at Paul’s life in photos: Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen and more stars with the father of the electric guitar.

“My friend & mentor Les Paul died today at 94, he was one of the most stellar human beings I’ve ever known, rest in peace Les.” — Slash

“Remembering Les Paul today. All rounder Tom "Cagedbaby" Gandey's multitrack iphone App is finally out.

The story hasn't been told yet, and it's the sort that has become a bit usual with Apple's application review system...

Have you ever been on Cagedbaby's myspace? Well the "Freakshow" artwork, cover of his latest single "Forced" made for some serious concern at the Apple...

When the app was first submitted, the recommended age for using the app was the usual (4+), but apparently, the cover is offending... True, on the cover displayed on the website you can clearly read "Sorry We're FUCKED", and there's a little image amongst the many in the patchwork where you see a young lady's breasts, walking along in a social event...

But neither on iTunes nor on the iPhone is it nearly possible to see those things, simply due to the size! And the app was refused, artwork had to be changed to gain re-approval and so the time passed. It now says the minimum age to download it is 17! I'm not here to judge American Puritanism, but.....

The waiting is now over! Don't hold back, indulge yourself and get it. You will not regret it. The track is simply pure Cagedbaby creation, fresh, groovy and efficient. It works just as well on the dance floor, the radio or on your iPhone / iPod Touch.

Get the app here
myspace.com/cagedbaby
Other iKlax iPhone Apps Thu, 1 Jan 1970 GMT http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/303-cagedbaby-forced-iphone-app-now-on-the-appstore-the-little-story Remix David Bowie's Space Oddity - Video Demo http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/299-remix-david-bowie-s-space-oddity-video-demo

Download the app from the Apple AppStore (iTunes) Thu, 1 Jan 1970 GMT http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/299-remix-david-bowie-s-space-oddity-video-demo EMI and iKLAX announce the launch of the multitrack iPhone application http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/281-emi-and-iklax-announce-the-launch-of-the-multitrack-iphone-application To celebrate the 40th anniversary release of "Space Oddity" and the first step on the moon, a new iPhone application allowing users to remix the title will be available on July 20th.

40 years to the day that Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon, EMI and Iklax will create a unique opportunity for David Bowie fans: the chance for them to download and mix the original multi-tracks of ‘Space Oddity,’ who also celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

As David Bowie is a pioneer of technology, and keen to push the boundaries, now is the time that his fans are afforded the opportunity to have access to the original 1969 multi-tracks of ‘Space Oddity,’ allowing them to become remixer and create their own version of the song.

Originally released on 11th July 1969 to coincide with the Apollo 11 moon landings, ‘Space Oddity’ was a cultural land for David Bowie as an artist – it was featured by the BBC in its television coverage of the lunar landing, and the song later won an Ivor Novello award. The song’s mysterious character, Major Tom, has become a recurrent theme throughout Bowie’s work and career, being revisited in the song ‘Ashes To Ashes’.

The iKlax ‘Space Oddity Multitrack App’ for iPhone and iPod Touch, (sold on the iTunes App store) will enable fans a unique and exciting opportunity. They can remix the individual tracks: vocals, acoustic 12-string guitar, drums and bass, mellotron, organ and guitars, guitar solo, strings and other orchestration; Fans can “shake” the phone for random mixes, and save their mix versions.
This is a revolutionary experience for music fans to recreate their own versions of one of popular music’s most iconic songs, all on the go, anytime, anywhere!

Furthermore, the "Space Oddity EP", also released on 20th July, includes four versions of the song. When fans purchase the EP they will also receive the original eight stems/multi-tracks for free, enabling them to remix the song.

iKlax multitrack software for Mac or PC, (www.iklaxmusic.com/davidbowie) allows fans the opportunity to use the original 8-track stems from the EP without complicated home studio software. Users simply download the iKlax “Creator” software, and follow the simple steps to remix and make the iKlax song file.

www.iklaxmusic.com/davidbowie Thu, 1 Jan 1970 GMT http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/281-emi-and-iklax-announce-the-launch-of-the-multitrack-iphone-application David Bowie marks 40th anniversary of Space Oddity http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/279-david-bowie-marks-40th-anniversary-of-space-oddity David Bowie is to release a digital EP of his 1969 Space Oddity release.

The Space Oddity Digital EP will contain four songs and when fans purchase them, they will also receive the original eight stems for free - allowing them to remix the songs using most digital music software or the iKlax software (www.iklaxmusic.com/davidbowie).

The four tracks are as follows:

Space Oddity (original UK mono single edit)
Space Oddity (US mono single edit)
Space Oddity (US stereo single edit)
Space Oddity (1979 re-record)

To find out more about Space Oddity's inspiration from Stanley Kubrick, and its significance in the first lunar landing in 1969, head over to davidbowie.com.
Original article on:
www.emi.com/ Thu, 1 Jan 1970 GMT http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/279-david-bowie-marks-40th-anniversary-of-space-oddity Michael Jackson is dead, God Bless Michael http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/272-michael-jackson-is-dead-god-bless-michael June, 26th of 2009.

Sad day.
Michael Jackson, one of the biggest Pop Star ever, died yesterday.

This guy was just a genius: strong voice, clear and pure, always inspired in his interpretations and with a unique sense of the beat. This singer rocked, really!
I am not a "pure" fan, I don't have any of his album at home, but I sincerely measure his impact on music History and industry.
Even when I hear some of the new songs coming from the young generation, I can feel inspirations from Michael Jackson.

Like some of the best artists of the 20th Century like Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison or John Lennon, he sent us "in others dimensions".
Like touched by "God's Finger".
And we had the chance, I really believe it, to live at the same period.

Of course, success, power, money and pressure were too wide for just a single human being.
That’s the cynical part of life: the higher you go, the lower you fall.
I sincerely believe that no one of us could be prepared to this kind of experience.
I don't justify anything, I didn't know him personally neither the "real" stories.

But I am sure that History will remember his impact on Music and that we will keep something of his magic in our feeling while dancing or singing.
Thu, 1 Jan 1970 GMT http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/272-michael-jackson-is-dead-god-bless-michael Cerrone's 1978 Hit "Je Suis Music" remixed by Armand Van Helden Demo http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/270-cerrone-s-1978-hit-je-suis-music-remixed-by-armand-van-helden-demo Get all the information on this iPhone / iPod Touch multitrack application on www.iklaxmusic.com

Thu, 1 Jan 1970 GMT http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/270-cerrone-s-1978-hit-je-suis-music-remixed-by-armand-van-helden-demo Cagedbaby "Forced" is in the pipe - check the demo out! http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/268-cagedbaby-forced-is-in-the-pipe-check-the-demo-out For more information on this iPhone / iPod Touch application - please go to www.iklaxmusic.com

Thu, 1 Jan 1970 GMT http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/268-cagedbaby-forced-is-in-the-pipe-check-the-demo-out IKLAX REMIX CONTEST WITH DJ MAZE! http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/251-iklax-remix-contest-with-dj-maze From June 3rd to July 15th.
It's never been so easy to remix. Their latest export is This Town Needs Guns, a band being hailed as the darling buds of the thriving UK indie scene. The band have toured across Europe with the likes of I Was A Cub Scout, Meet Me In St Louis, Rolo Tomassi and Maps & Atlases and the release of 2007’s split EP with Cats And Cats And Cats garnered critical acclaim from fans and press alike.

This Town Needs Guns entered the studio in April 2008, setting out to find an intricate balance between indie rock, catchy pop and technical prowess, all while ignoring the lure of special effects and studio wizardry. Through this process, their debut full-length Animals was born; a collection of songs that bring to light the band’s pure, clever and earnest song writing ability. Tim Collis’ guitar sounds as though it’s being caressed by 6 hands as his brother, Chris, flings his sticks around the drum kit not wanting to leave any tiny patch un-touched. Bassist Dan Adams completes the rhythm section with his dancey, jazz influenced bass lines while Stuart Smith’s vocals dip and soar, taking this record from thought provoking depths to sky-scraping triumphs.

Arch Woodman & Hope+Belief Collective

Young, French and acoustic, Arch Woodmann is the solo project of a former post-punk/post-rocker who chose to leave - for a while - electricity behind him. After having fallen in love with folk music, he started to focuse on his own production, which mixes the melancholy of Sun Kil Monn to the experimental jazz touch of Do Make Say Think, with a few Broken Social Scene-like poppy choruses. Song after song, Arch Woodmann breaks free from his influences, building a unique universe where he invites several musicians from different music styles (pop, rock, jazz, classical).

Friday 17 April @ la Luna Negra, Bayonne, France 9 PM (12€/8€) Thu, 1 Jan 1970 GMT http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/224-this-town-needs-guns-arch-woodmann-at-la-luna-negra-bayonne-france-friday-17-april The Voca People - Eight tracks, no instruments! http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/222-the-voca-people-eight-tracks-no-instruments Thu, 1 Jan 1970 GMT http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/222-the-voca-people-eight-tracks-no-instruments Phoenix Is Reaching Out To Their Fans http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/214-phoenix-is-reaching-out-to-their-fans
More and more multitrack tracks are released by bands every day. Even more so with the computer, that allows to digitalize sound, and therefore process all the little bits (stem tracks) separately.

Although this is no news for artists & sound engineers, it remains fairly outside the public’s dimension, which generally is thought to [only] enjoy the finished entity of the song.

Sometimes though, perhaps in a live show, the listener has the opportunity to listen to a musicians solo, and discover the quality of the person on a particular instrument, and the quality of the sound of that particular instrument.

Music’s evolution, since Man discovered the joy of it, has gone through the creation, evolution and establishment of various music instruments, along the use of the beautiful capability of some to sing…

Again, the onset of computers and technology, has spawned new areas of development for music, a subject probably still debated by some.

I believe that this evolution keeps going, and, as you’re reading this on the iKlax blog, you probably already know where I’m getting at here.

Of course, as an employee at iKlax, I see the iKlax audio format as a great step forward in music’s evolution. Today, its true that it takes awhile to just grasp what it is, what it basically does, and furthermore, what it actually could do.

It has been just over a year that the company exists, and a couple of years before that, that the idea, the concept was born out of a passionate music lover who was topped with enterprise ambition, Owen Lagadec. Assisted technically by Ivan Duchemin, a French top IT audio developer, they’ve laid the foundation of multitrack playback, that is, a simple way for [basic] users like me, to discover a widely ignored dimension in/of music. And this is just skimming the surface of the various uses the iKlax format can potentially have. The new limits as far as creation and joy of listening goes will be set by artists themselves. They are the matter creators. iKlax is just another string to their bows, another tool, to get us vibrating under the sound of our favourite tunes and songs, whatever the style.

Since I have had more opportunities to listen, I can boast around, being one of the first to really experience it. And now it’s coming to all, with the contemporary music that we enjoy on a daily basis. So I invite you to discover known and less known artists on iklaxmusic.com for the computer based tracks, and to the App Store, if you’re a happy iPhone or iPod Touch user to download the iKlax applications. Six months later, the software has been downloaded over 7,000 times, a feat for music software!”

“iKlax Creator Pro’s evolutions, brought by invaluable user feedback, include exclusive functionalities like multiple mixes creation in one single file and the dynamic volumes mixing.”

“Following the company’s launch in January, other initiatives from France & Korea prove that interactive music is very contemporary. In February we were ahead of our competitors, an advance that we’ve kept thanks to major innovations like our exclusive constraint system that acts on tracks and volumes. This enables the creator of the music to control the way it is listened to. As an artist myself, I understand how important it is to guarantee a creation’s integrity. We are the only ones to offer this,” concludes Mr. Lagadec.

MAJOR INNOVATIONS ON MIXING

iKlax Creator Pro has been designed to perfectly integrate traditional creation methods and occurs at the end of the process, once the creator has recorded and arranged his tracks on his usual sequencer.

iKlax Creator Pro brings true innovations to audio mixing:

- The ability to import multi-format stem tracks without decompressing (wave, aiff, mp3, ogg vorbis, …): the tracks remain in their original format throughout the mixing process.

- The first multi-format drag & drop virtual mixing table: the drag & drop system allows the creator to add stem tracks to the virtual mixing table, on the fly.

- The unlimited creation of mixes (iKmix) for every single file.

- The mixing & selection constraints setting

- The export of the file in the multitrack & interactive iKlax format, or in mp3, ogg vorbis and wave.

FULL CONTROL

“Beyond the interactivity, the great improvement of iKlax Creator Pro, is its mixing engine”, specifies Laurent Primaux, R&D CO. “For instance, you can create mixing rules allowing stem tracks’ volumes to be linked. Therefore, when a user moves a volume slide bar, the other volume slide bars will also move while retaining the same relation. This has never been done before.”

USEFUL INFORMATION

Please find all technical information on our website: www.iklax.com

In order to ease the transition to interactive music, iKlax offers a FREE VERSION of iKlax Creator Pro. Loads of illegal downloading and copying, which for some is seen as pure theft, for others as free advertising and a hint on the music's quality (its wanted when downloaded!).

Now we come along with our multi-track audio format, providing a novel outlook for anyone involved with music.

New opportunities include:

:: creativity :: - :: interactivity :: - :: richer content ::
Artists can include more into every single song they produce, e.g. solos that have been squashed now have their place alongside, the user able to listen to the song over and over, just swapping between the versions offered by the artists.

:: promotion ::
iKlax contains a natural promotion tool, which is easily exploited by listeners through iKlax Player... they can get involved in the song by re-mixing the song using the tracks provided by artists & bands, without having to download source material nor using complex sequencing equipment. Feedback would be counted in the tens of thousand or more, compared with the thousands successfully achieved by Radiohead for instance.

And YES, it's all new. Artists & bands should grab the opportunity to be among the first to show off their tunes.

Don't hesitate prompting, poking, asking or bugging me with questions, I will answer all of them (if less than a 1000!).

CALL, GRAB, GET YOUR FAVOURITE ARTISTS TO PRODUCE IKLAX TRAX!!! Thu, 1 Jan 1970 GMT http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/123-new-opportunities iklaxmusic.com artists http://blog.iklax.com/en/index/120-iklaxmusic-com-artists Have you checked the latests added songs on iklaxmusic.com?
